How to Modify Who Can See You on Facebook
To change who can see you online on Facebook, go to the browser version of the platform and change your Active Status settings.
It’s questionable whether these settings will apply if you’re using the Facebook app to access the social networking site. So, if you don’t want particular people to notice your online presence, we recommend turning off the Active Status on the app (which we will show you later in this tutorial).
So, how do you go about changing your active list?
Follow these procedures to update your Facebook Active Status settings…
- Select the button with 3 horizontal dots labeled Options on the right-hand bar, where your Contacts are displayed.
- Select Turn off Active Status from the dropdown menu.

How to Prevent Someone From Seeing You Online on Facebook
If you’re concerned about Facebook not turning off Active Status for almost all of your sessions and don’t want someone specific to see you online, block them from messaging you.
This is not the same as a full Facebook block.
Blocking someone’s communications is not the same as blocking them on Facebook. If you block someone’s communications but do not block them on Facebook, you will still be able to view their Facebook page.
If you block someone on Facebook, they won’t be able to see when you’re online.
Follow these procedures to block communications from a contact and thereby stop them from ever seeing whether you’re online:
- Open a conversation with the contact.
- Selecting their name will bring up a selection of options.
- Choose Block.
